Crucial Game Plan: Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles

With us playing the Philadelphia Eagles tomorrow here are three keys I believe the Washington Commanders need to follow in order for us to have a chance to win.

  1. Run the ball. Brian Robinson averaged 7 yards a carry last week against the Buffalo Bills, a legit Super Bowl Contender, and with a young quarterback in Sam Howell we need to provide a balanced offense to keep the defense on it heels. This will also allow Howell more time in the pocket when we call a play action play. He currently leads the NFL with 19 sacks.

  2. Sack the QB when we get the chance. Last week, we had multiple opportunities to sack Josh Allen but instead we allowed him to escape the pocket and either gain massive yards on the ground or extend plays until he found a wide receiver down he field. Jalen Hurts has the same ability to escape the pocket and extend plays. So, when we get our chances, which there might not be a lot of because their offensive line is great, we need to wrap Hurts up and create long distance downs to help us get the ball back in favorable field position.

  3. Take what the defense gives us. Obviously, there will be times where we will take a shot down the field but Sam needs to do a better job of taking what the defense gives him and limiting the sacks he takes. I have already mentioned once before that he leads the NFL with 19 sacks. They are not all on him but some are a result of him holding the ball because he wants to make a play down the field instead of taking his check down. With that being said, our wide receivers need to help Sam out by getting open. When you watch the NFL All-22 and pause it when Sam has taken his last step, you see that there is hardly ever a wide receiver with separation from their defender. Combine that with the fact that Andrew Wylie cannot pass protect to save his life and you get the sacks that are not on Sam.

There you have it. Those are the three keys I believe the Washington Commanders need to follow in order to have a chance to win tomorrow. Obviously, there are other areas of concern but I believe if the Commanders succeed in these three areas that there is a chance they can come out on top with a win.
