Just as he regained his confidence after recovering from a significant knee injury, Chase Young is injured again. Thankfully, It is not that serious this time or at least that’s what we have been told by the Washington Commanders.
Chase Young during the Commanders first preseason game, against the Cleveland Browns, reported that he had a stinger. A stinger is a common nerve injury that occurs in the neck and shoulder area. It feels like a burning sensation or electric shock and can last anywhere from seconds to days or even longer.
This injury should not linger on too long but the way the Washington Commanders are handling it is a little suspicious in my opinion. For instance, Chase Young has been able to complete individual drills in training camp but has not been cleared by doctors to participate in team drills. Normally, this would make some sense if the injury was more serious, but the injury is a stinger. You would think that if he could do individual drills, that Chase would be able to do team drills.
Look, I’m not trying to be insensitive about his health. In all honesty, I want him 100% healthy for the regular season because those games actually matter. The part that concerns me is that when Ron Rivera is asked about Young’s injury situation, he says that Chase Young has a doctor’s appointment coming up. I’m not a part of the coaching or training staff and I want Chase to do what is best for himself, but doesn’t a player being fully cleared to participate usually come from the team doctor?
At this point, I hope this is just the Commanders being overly precautious but I can’t help but wonder if there is something else going on. Ultimately, I hope Chase gets healthy soon because that’s truly what matters.
