Let’s talk about the Washington Commanders new hires.
First up we have Brandon Sosna. He joins the Commanders as the new Senior Vice President of Football Operations after serving as the Detroit Lions Senior Director of Football Administration. While in Detroit, he oversaw their strategic planning and managed their salary cap as well as being their Chief Contract Negotiator. His experience is vast as he has spent time at the University of Cincinnati as the Athletic Department’s Chief of Staff, he was an intern with the Cleveland Browns as a Football Administration Intern in 2017-2018 before being elevated to Salary Cap and Contract Analyst in 2018 and he was USC’s Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director from 2019-2021. Here in DC, Sosna will be the lead contract negotiator and will have a significant role in the salary cap. He will also oversee the football operations departments, such as the analytics and health and performance departments, and he will be a liaison for the organization’s business operations. He will also be heavily involved in roster construction and the CBA. When asked about Sosna Adam Peters said, “Brandon was a key addition to Brad Holmes’ staff in 2022 and played a vital role in assisting the Lions in their roster construction these past two seasons. His expertise on the salary cap and in contract negotiations along with his well-rounded skillset developed through his unique career across the NFL and collegiate athletics makes him a great fit for the front office we are building here in Washington”.

Next up we have David Blackburn. He joins the Commanders as the new Director of Player Personnel after spending the last 17 years with the Baltimore Ravens in various roles. He started his career as a Player Personnel Assistant in 2007 and recently served as the Ravens Director of College Scouting since 2022. He has a lot of experience scouting players. In his career he has spent 7 years as a West Area Scout and 2 years as a National Scout. Last year, he completed the NFL’s Front Office and General Manager Accelerator Program, which is a league program tasked with building the league’s minority talent pipeline. When asked about Blackburn Adam Peters had this to say, “I’ve known David Blackburn for a number of years dating back to our days scouting the West Coast. David has always impressed me with his consistent approach, talent in player evaluation and overall professionalism. He is one of the most respected scouts in the NFL and is also a top-notch person. He has been a valued member of the Baltimore Ravens personnel department and has learned from two of the most well-respected people in our business in Ozzie Newsome and Eric Decosta. David will be an outstanding addition to the staff we are building here in Washington”.
Lastly, we have Jack Quagliarello. Jack joins the Commanders as a Pro Scout after spending one year in San Francisco with Adam Peters as a Scouting Assistant. He also spent a year in Northwestern’s Recruiting Department and was a Training Camp Player Personnel Intern with the Jets in 2021. Before that he spent time with the Colts as a Football Operations Intern during training camp in 2019 and again during the 2020-2021 season. He has also spent time as a Group Leader during the 2019 Reese’s Senior Bowl and was a recruiting intern at Syracuse from 2018-2020.
Are these hires good for the Commanders? That’s yet to be determined but one thing we do know is that Adam Peters is adding experienced and well-respected individuals to an organization that needed it.
